A well deserved day off from work… but not revising

One of the advantages of being in the military is that we get federal holidays off. So that means that I didn’t have to go into work today! Talk about a well deserved day off. No work means time to go out with my family and have some fun.
Ellie and I already went to the gym and now we are waiting for our youngest to catch a nap before going to Baltimore and wandering around a museum together as a family. Needless to say I am one happy man.

What am I doing while our little one sleeps? Primarily I am going to get out kitchen in order and cleaned. But on top of that I am going to be reading my manuscript. That is right. While today is a day off, there is no rest for the revising. I have been a good little author and have been reading my manuscript everyday since I started my revising process. I am not rushing through it. I am taking my time like I would with any other book I am reading. And amazingly enough I have resisted the urge to make notes where things need to be changed or reworked. I have resisted the desire to start my new outline. I have even stymied the need to work on character sketches and scene sketches for later. I have been a very good little author indeed.

That is not to say I don’t have a huge amount of ideas floating around in my head. But I decided that I would read it all the way through once before writing down anything. And that is what I am going to do. Once I get the whole story as it is already written into my head, fresh and new, then I will see it a complete thing. From there I can better decided how everything is going to go and work. I can go through with a fine toothed comb and weed out the good from the bad. And then the fun begins.

But for now I am going to get some coffee, work on the kitchen and then read more. What about you? What are you doing today?

I think that’s a good idea to read through with not action. I did that with mine and you read it how the reader would. I think you get a feel for the book before you get the red pen out :)

We’ve had a deluge of snow overnight. I spent the day digging the car out and then editing. Enjoy your trip to the museum. :)
